Carla Lopes, Associate Professor of Epidemiology, University of Porto Medical School (FMUP). He graduated in Nutritional Sciences in the Faculty of Nutrition, University of Porto in 1992. In 2000, concluded the PhD in Human Biology in FMUP.
Coordinator of the Department of Public Health Nutrition–Institute of Public Health University of Porto; Coordinator of the Epidemiology Master and member of the Scientific Committee of the PhD programme in Public Health – University of Porto Medical School; Member of the Pedagogic Council - University of Porto Medical School; She was member of the Scientific Committee of “Platform against Obesity” – DGS-Ministry of Health (2009-2012). She takes part of the Scientific Advisory Board of the European network programme on DEterminants of DIetary and Physical Activity (DEDIPAC KH).
Coordinator of the Research Group on Nutritional Epidemiology and Obesity of the Research Epidemiology Unit ISPUP-EPIUnit. Her research interests are related with the assessment of food intake and its determinants, namely how early determinants influence later food patterns and body composition. She also is interested in evaluating the relationship between dietary/lifestyle exposures and cardiovascular diseases, including obesity.
Susana Silva was born in Guimarães, in 1975. She completed a PhD in Sociology from the U. Porto, in 2008, and became a senior researcher at the Institute of Public Health – University of Porto, in March 2014, coordinating the Department of Health and Society and the research group on Social Epidemiology. She awarded a starting grant position within FCT Investigator Programme for the period 2014-2019, a researcher-centred, highly competitive scheme, aimed at providing support for the most talented and creative researchers, capable of carrying out independent research and becoming leaders in their fields. She has participated in national projects and international research networks, in the field of Social Studies of Science, Health and Society, in areas such as reproductive and genetic technologies (regulation, ethics, and social uses), relationships between users and health professionals, and social determinants of health, which resulted in (co)authorship of more than 100 scientific publications in national and international journals and books. Silva has established vital links between research and teaching, being Professor at the Faculty of Medicine (U. Porto).

Atualmente bolseiro de Doutoramento em Saúde Pública Global, no ISPUP, é Psicólogo de formação, Mestre em Psicologia Comunitária, e está ligado ao terceiro setor desde 2004, tendo trabalhado em áreas como a proteção de jovens, habitação social e saúde mental, antes de iniciar trabalho na área do VIH e infeções relacionadas.
Henrique Barros was born in Porto, in 1957. He graduated in Medicine in 1981 and teaches at the School of Medicine of Porto University (FMUP) since 1979. From 1988-89 was research fellow at the Internal Medicine department of Lund ́s University Hospital. In 1991 became Gastroenterology specialist and finished his PhD, with a research in the epidemiology of viral hepatitis. He is Full Professor of Epidemiology since 1999. He led the organization of the Master Programs in Public Health (coordinator), Epidemiology, Health Education and Sociology and Health, as well as the doctoral program in Public Health at the University of Porto and the doctoral program in Global Public Health (program director), a joint program with Nova University of Lisbon, financed by the Portuguese Research Foundation (FCT). He has developed research in national and international projects, in areas such as clinical and perinatal epidemiology, cardiovascular, infectious and cancer diseases, which resulted in (co) authorship of more than 200 scientific publications in international journals. He is editor of the journal Arquivos de Medicina, and member of the Editorial Board of the European Journal of Epidemiology. He was member of the Scientific Council for Health Sciences Foundation for Science and Technology (2004-12). He was National Coordinator for Infection HIV/AIDS (2005-11) and President of Portuguese Association of Epidemiology (2013-15). Currently, he is the President of the Institute of Public Health, University of Porto, member of the Executive Commission of the National Ethical Committee for Clinical Investigation (CEIC) and member of the Medical Sciences (MED) Scientific Committee of Science Europe and President- Elect of the International Epidemiological Association (2014-17).
