Joana Araújo was born in Santo Tirso, Porto, in 1985. She graduated in Nutritional Sciences at the Faculty of Nutrition and Food Sciences, University of Porto, in 2008, and completed the Master in Public Health in 2010. She concluded the PhD in Public Health at the University of Porto Medical School in September 2016, with the thesis “Age trends in adiposity and prediction of cardiovascular risk profiles: from adolescence into adulthood.” (SFRH/BD/78153/2011).

She develops her research work in the EPITeen cohort since 2008, and she is a member of the Research Group on Nutritional Epidemiology and Obesity of the Epidemiology Research Unit (EPIUnit). Her research areas of interest are the nutritional and obesity epidemiology, and in particular the trajectories of obesity during adolescence.
