Description:

A position is available within the framework of the project “How childhood social adversity shapes health: The biology of social adversity (PTDC/DTP-EPI/1687/2014), (POCI-01-0145-FEDER-016838)” funded by FEDER through the Operational Programme Competitiveness and Internationalization and national funding from the Foundation for Science and Technology – FCT (Portuguese Ministry of Science, Technology and Higher Education).

 

Scientific area:Health Sciences

 

Admission requirements:

Applicants must have a Master degree in Health Sciences or equivalent areas; and experience in epidemiology, social health determinants, health inequalities and biology of social adversity. Experience and training in statistical analyses and scientific writing is required. Fluency in English documented by corresponding diploma or scientific papers as the first author.

 

Activity outline:

The successful applicant will be part of the research team. He/she will be responsible for data collection, management of databases, statistical analyses and writing scientific reports.

Duration and Stipend:

The initial duration of the position is 12 months and a possible extension up to 24 months, if does not exceed the end date of the project scheduled for 16th May 2019.

 

Value of monthly maintenance allowance:

The amount of the grant corresponds to €980 (free of taxes), according to the table of grants values ​​of FCT in the country (http://alfa.fct.mctes.pt/apoios/bolsas/valores).

 

Selection methods:

There will be a pre-selection based on ranking by curriculum evaluation of all the eligible candidates, being summoned to interview the selected candidates.

“HOW CHILDHOOD SOCIAL ADVERSITY SHAPES HEALTH: THE BIOLOGY OF SOCIAL ADVERSITY”

On 30th October 2017 the selection Jury (Sílvia Fraga, Ana Cristina Santos and Ana Henriques) of the above mentioned Research Grant position within the activities of the project “How Childhood social adversity shapes health: The biology of social adversity” (PTDC/DTP-EPI/1687/2014) (POCI-01-0145-FEDER-016838), funded by FEDER through the Operational Programme Competitiveness and Internationalization and national funding from the Foundation for Science and Technology – FCT (Portuguese Ministry of Science, Technology and Higher Education), met in order to define the selection process criteria.

 

The Jury decided to establish three selection phases:

 

1. Compliance with the admission requirements, as defined in the announcement

a. Existence of all documents required (Curriculum vitae, academic degree certification and motivation letter)

b. Mandatory academic and professional requirements:

                    i. Master degree in Health Sciences or equivalent areas;

 

Candidates will be disqualified if one of the mentioned above criteria (a. and/or b.) is not met.

 

2. Curriculum vitae evaluation (CE) - maximum score of 20 points as the sum of each criterion:

a. Experience in epidemiology, social health determinants, health inequalities and biology of social adversity (maximum 10 points)

b. Experience and training in statistical analysis (maximum 3 points)

c. Experience in scientific writing/ publication track record (maximum 2 points)

d. Ability to speak and write in English at working level (maximum 2 points)

e. Motivation letter (maximum 3 points)

 

Candidates with less than 10 points will not be admitted for interview.

 

3. Interview (I) – maximum score of 20 points

 

Only candidates with more than ten points in the CA evaluation will be considered for interview. The candidates with the highest score in each area will be invited for the interview until a maximum of three.

The interview score will be the sum of each criterion:

  1. Ability to describe previous work on the requested areas (0 to 4 points);
  2. Ability to demonstrate knowledge on the requested fields (0 to 4 points);
  3. Good use of scientific terminologies (0 to 4 points);
  4. Ability to conceptualize strategies to deal with real problems (0 to 4 points);
  5. Good interpersonal/communication skills (0 to 4 points).

 

Each member of the Jury will score the candidate; final interview classification will be the result of the arithmetic average of the Jury scores.

 

Candidates’ Final Classification (FC)

 Maximum score of 20 points based on the formula:

FC = [Curriculum Evaluation (CE) + Interview (I)] / 2

 

 

The candidate with the highest score will be selected.

MINUTES OF THE SECOND MEETING OF THE JURY FOR THE SELECTION PROCESS OF ONE RESEARCH SCHOLARSHIP WITHIN THE ACTIVITIES OF THE PROJECT

On the 13th of November 2017, the selection Jury (Sílvia Fraga, Ana Cristina Santos and Ana Henriques) of the above mentioned scholarship position met in order to classify the Curriculum vitae of the candidates, according to the previously defined criteria.

Ten candidates applied for this position. After analysis of the documentation, including the academic and professional eligibility requirements, 1 candidate was excluded because: a) no master degree in the required fields. Final classification is presented in the following table.
