Academic and professional requirements

  • Doctoral (PhD) Degree in Public Health or Public Health Sciences;
  • Training and research in Epidemiology;
  • Leadership in scientific research projects;
  • Excellent track record of publications in international peer-reviewed journals.

Preference will be given to candidates with previous experience in conducting research work, and independent experience in population studies and management of multidisciplinary research teams. Demonstration of independent and critical thinking will be highly valued as well as previous international academic or research experiences

Activity outline

The holder of the position will integrate the EPIUnit - Epidemiology Research Unit - Institute of Public Health, University of Porto.

We are looking for a postdoc fellow willing to be responsible for a specific project aligned with the EpiUnit research strategy. The researcher is also expected to lead publications in international journals.

Institute of Public Health of the University of Porto, at Rua das Taipas, 135, 4050-600 Porto, Portugal.

 

Duration and Stipend

The grant will have a duration of 12 months, and a possible extension up to 3 years, with an expected starting date in May 2019. Financial aspects are in accordance with the FCT regulations (http://alfa.fct.mctes.pt/apoios/bolsas/valores), which assigns a tax-free stipend of 1.509,80 € /per month.

Evaluation criteria and process

Selection will be based on the Curriculum Vitae plus the Motivation Letter and the Research Plan Proposal evaluation and an Interview with a public presentation of the research plan. There will be a pre-selection based on the CV evaluation, motivation letter and the research plan proposal, and up to five candidates will be selected for an interview with a public presentation of the research plan.  The successful candidates must score at least 15 points in each of the criteria (CV; Research Plan and Motivation Letter) in order to be called for interview.

 

Criteria for Curriculum Vitae evaluation (0 to 20 points)

  1. Training and researching in Epidemiology (0 to 5 points);
  2. Previous experience in a research project (0 to 5 points);
  3. Track record of international publications in peer-review journals in terms of number and quality (0 to 5 points);
  4. International Experience (0 to 5 points).

  1. Research plan (0 to 20 points)

 

Criteria for Motivation letter evaluation (0 to 20 points)

  1. Motivation letter (0 to 20 points).

 

Criteria for interview evaluation (0 to 20 points)

  1. Relevance and time feasibility of the work plan (0 to 5 points);
  2. Knowledge and skills to accomplish the work plan ( 0 to 10 points);
  3. Communication skills (0 to 5 points).

 

Curricular evaluation of all eligible candidates + interview (possibly by videoconference) with a maximum of five candidates.

iii) Motivation letter, including as appendix a scientific article in which the candidate had central participation in statistical analysis;

iv) Synopsis of the scientific and curricular path, highlighting the main activities and results obtained in the last 5 years;
