Description: A scholarship position is available at the Institute of Public Health of the University of Porto (ISPUP) under the scope of project NanoBioBarriers: Unravelling the mechanisms underlying the effects of metal-based nanoparticles on biological barriers - a contribution towards the implementation of the safe-by-design concept (PTDC/MED-TOX/31162/2017 - POCI-01-0145-FEDER-031162) funded by Programa Operacional Competitividade e Internacionalização through Fundos Europeus de Desenvolvimento Regional (FEDER/FNR) and through national funds (FCT/OE) (PTDC/MED-TOX/31162/2017 - POCI-01-0145-FEDER-031162).

Admission requirements: Applicants must have a Bachelor degree (‘grau de licenciado’ in the Portuguese system) in Biology, Biochemistry or in a closely related field.

The following elements will be strongly valued:

a) Knowledge in Toxicology and Nanotoxicology;

b) Prior working and/or training experience in cell culture techniques, in vitro toxicology, biochemistry and molecular biology;

c) Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point);

d) Initiative, autonomy and good communication skills.

Activity Outline: We are looking for a young and motivated researcher who will participate in specific tasks of the project using the techniques mentioned in the admission requirements. The hired research scholar is also expected to contribute for the drafting of original work publishable in the form of full text papers in international journals and disseminate the project’s results in national and international conferences.

Workplace: Portuguese National Institute of Health Doutor Ricardo Jorge. Address: Rua Alexandre Herculano 321, 4000-055, Porto, Portugal.

Duration: The initial duration of the position is 12 months, with a predicted starting date of December 2019.

Value of monthly maintenance allowance: The amount of the scholarship corresponds to € 752.38, according to the values of the scholarships awarded directly by FCT (http://www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/valores). Payment will be made by ISPUP by bank transfer.

Legislation and regulations: Lei Nº. 40/2004, from 18th August (Research Grant Holder Statute) republished by supplement - Decreto-Lei n.º 202/2012, from 27th August (https://www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/estatutobolseiro) and Regulations for Advance Training and Qualification of Human Resources 2015 (https://www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/regulamentos.phtml.en).

Selection criteria: The selection methods to be used will be curriculum evaluation (75%) and interview (25%). There will be a pre-selection based on curriculum evaluation, the best ranked candidates will be interviewed with a maximum of five candidates. The final classification will be obtained by the following formula: (0.75 x CE) + (0.25 x I), on a scale of 0 to 20 points.

The target factors for curricular evaluation are those indicated in the admission requirements stated above. Candidates must score a minimum of 10 points (half of the total score) to be selected.

 

Criteria for Curriculum Evaluation (CE) (0 to 20 points):

a) Knowledge in Toxicology and Nanotoxicology: 0 to 5 points;

b) Prior working and/or training experience in cell culture techniques, in vitro toxicology, biochemistry and molecular biology: 0 to 8 points;

c) Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point): 0 to 5 points;

d) Initiative, autonomy and good communication skills: 0 to 2 points.

 

 

 

Criteria for Interview (I) evaluation (0 to 20 points):

a) Professional knowledge and skills to accomplish the work plan: 0 to 9 points;

b) Motivation towards the research project: 0 to 4 points;

c) Professional attitude: 0 to 4 points;

d) Communication skills: 0 to 3 points.

If the first candidate withdraws or does not accept the position, the second classified will be called, and so on. If none of the candidates proves to have the profile indicated for carrying out the work plan, the jury reserves the right not to award the position in competition.
