Wolfgang Philipp is Head of Unit for "Health Security and Vaccination" at the Directorate General for Health and Food Safety of the European Commission. This unit is focusing on preparedness and response to cross-border threats to health, such as Covid-19. He holds a PhD in microbiology/biochemistry of the University of Paris, France and worked in tuberculosis research at the Pasteur Institute in Paris, at the Universities of Bern and Basel, and the Basel Institute for Immunology before joining the European Commission.
