FCT announces the approval of the ITR Associated Laboratory

The Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) announced the approval of ITR – Laboratory for Integrative and Translational Research in Population Health.

The new associated laboratory is born out of a partnership between three research units – the Epidemiology Research Unit (EPIUnit) of the Instituto de Saúde Pública da Universidade do Porto (ISPUP), the Centro de Investigação em Actividade Física, Saúde e Lazer (CIAFEL), of the Faculdade de Desporto da Universidade do Porto, and the Unidade Multidisciplinar de Investigação Biomédica (UMIB) of the Instituto de Ciências Biomédicas Abel Salazar da Universidade do Porto.

The ITR’s mission is to promote research excellence in the area of population health, seeking to produce science with an impact on society, ensuring attractive working conditions and involving citizens in all stages of the public policy cycle.

The new laboratory is committed to four main thematic lines of research, focusing on life course research and healthy ageing, syndemics, health inequalities and vulnerable populations, genetic, environmental and behavioural health determinants, and patient and population outcome research.

The ITR is composed of 184 integrated PhDs.

The public presentation session of the associated laboratory can be viewed HERE, starting at 2:51:18.
