ISPUP researchers distinguished with a Medal of Merit by The Portuguese Council of Nutritionists 

The researchers Carla Lopes, Pedro Moreira and Pedro Graça, from the Instituto de Saúde Pública da Universidade do Porto (ISPUP), were distinguished by The Portuguese Council of Nutritionists with a Medal of Merit., on April 28th.

The awarding of the Medal took place at the Portuguese Council of Nutritionists 2021 Medal of Merit Ceremony, where “those who by their actions and personal excellence have contributed to the development of nutrition and the profession of nutritionist in Portugal” were honoured, says the website of the Council.

This recognition, in addition to highlighting the professional activities of the ISPUP researchers, is also rewarding the role they have played in the promotion and development of the profession of Nutritionist.

The session took place at the António de Almeida Foundation in Porto. 

The awarded researchers

Carla Lopes is an Associated Professor at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Porto (FMUP), with Aggregation in Public Health. She is an integrated researcher at the Epidemiology Research Unit of ISPUP and at Laboratory for Integrative and Translational Research in Population Health (ITR), where she coordinates the thematic line Life course Research and Healthy Ageing and the research group on Nutrition and Cardiometabolic Health. Carla Lopes is a member of the Executive Committe of the Association of Schools of Public Health in the European Region (ASPHER). She was coordinator of The National Food, Nutrition and Physical Activity Survey (IAN-AF 2015-2016) and integrates the “Food Consumption Data Network” of the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA). She integrated the Board of the Portuguese Association of Nutritionists (2007/2010). She was President of the General Council of the Order of Nutritionists between 2015 and 2019, and member of the Installation Committee for the Specialty in Community Nutrition and Public Health.

Pedro Moreira is a Full Professor of Human Nutrition in the Faculty of Nutrition and Food Sciences, University of Porto (FCNAUP) and integrated researcher at ITR, where he coordinates the laboratory Dietary Intake and Exercise in Obesity, Asthma and Allergy. He is also member of the Editorial Board of Nutrients. Pedro Moreira was President of the General Assembly of the Portuguese Association of Nutritionists for the 2010-2016 term of office, and founding member of the Portuguese Nutrition and Food Society. He was the Director of FCNAUP between 2014 and 2018 and he is the Director of Master’s Degree in Pediatric Nutrition at FCNAUP.

Pedro Graça is the Director of FCNAUP and ex Director of the Programa Nacional para a Promoção da Alimentação Saudável (PNPAS) (National Program for the Promotion of Healthy Eating). He is also researcher at ITR, where he coordinates the laboratory Food Policy. Pedro Graça is member of the Scientific Council of the Autoridade para a Segurança Alimentar e Económica (ASAE) (Food and Economic Safety Authority) and was the portuguese focal point of the World Health Organization and of the European Comission. He was also coordinator of the National Platform against Obesity, from the Direção-Geral da Saúde (DGS) (General Direction of Health).
