This laboratory focuses on the study of new and existing biomarkers in laboratory studies.

To do this, biomarkers are studied at three levels – exposure, effect and susceptibility. The group’s research centres not only on evaluating new markers, but also on redefining the use of existing markers, with another central aim being the study of the appropriate use of laboratory tests.

The lab develops its research work in close proximity to a hospital environment, having access to biological samples, which are fundamental to reach the biomarkers associated with better clinical decision-making.
