Berta is a Registered Dietitian (5118N) and holds a BSc degree in Nutritional Sciences from the Faculty of Nutrition and Food Sciences of the University of Porto (2021). Currently, she is a Ph.D. student in the Doctoral Program in Public Health in the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto.

From 2020-2021, Berta was a trainee at the Institute of Public Health of the University of Porto (ISPUP), where she developed skills in the field of community nutrition and scientific research in public health. During this period, she collaborated on two projects to promote health literacy – Fortalecimento da Resilência e da Segurança Alimentar e Nutricional em Angola” and PLATE – “Programa de Literacia Alimentar de base Tecnológica nas Escolas”. She also collaborated on the Valongo Municipal Health Plan, in the development and implementation of nutritional education sessions, for 6th and 9th graders, about Food Sustainability. Regarding the area of ​​Scientific Research, she conducted her first research work entitled “Socioeconomic factors and intergenerational differences in height of Portuguese adults born in 1990: results from the EPITeen cohort”, having developed an enthusiastic interest in scientific writing and working with multidisciplinary teams.

Since February 2022, she has been an active member of the NNEdPro Global Institute for Food, Nutrition, and Health, where she co-leads the Regional Network for Italy and the Mediterranean.

Currently, she is part of the EUCAN-Connect project, where she has acquiring skills in data harmonization, analysis, and statistical modeling applied to epidemiology.

Her main interests are related to socioeconomic health inequalities, particularly concerning non-communicable diseases such as obesity.
