Filipa Coelho Esteves

Graduated in Environmental Health (2014) by the pela Escola Superior de Saúde do Instituto Politécnico do Porto (ESS|P.Porto), Filipa Esteves has a master’s degree (2016) in Occupational Safety and Hygiene Engineering by the Faculty of Engineering of University of Porto (FEUP). During her master, Filipa Esteves had the opportunity to foster the field of genetic toxicology by evaluating the genotoxic effects of intense physical activity among dancers from the Portuguese National Company of Ballet. In 2016, she was awarded with a Research Grant (HEBE “Health, Comfort and Energy in the Built Environment” – Project NORTE-01-0145-FEDER-000010) focused on the detection of genotoxic effects among swimmers exposed to trihalomethanes (sept 2016 – dec 2019). Later (jan 2020) she was involved in a Research Grant in the scope of a multidisciplinary Project entitled “BioFirEx – A panel of (bio)markers for the surveillance of firefighter’s health and safety” (Ref. PCIF/SSO/0017/2018). In the same year, Filipa Esteves enrolled the Doctoral Programme in Public Health of the Faculty of Medicine of Porto University through a FCT grant (Ref UI/BD/150783/2020). Her PhD work entitled “Biomonitoring Firefighter Occupational Exposure” (Bio4FOX) is focused on the surveillance of wildland firefighters’ occupational health, specifically in the assessment of genotoxicity associated with the exposure to wildfires pollutants. Member of the Laboratory for Integrative and Translational Research in Population Health (ITR), she has been developing her research activities, through the years (2016-present), in the Institute of Public Health of the University of Porto and in the Department of Environmental Health of the National of Institute of Health Dr. Ricardo Jorge. During her scientific journey, she had the opportunity of being involved in different tasks in the frame of several human biomonitoring R&D projects; to publish scientific papers (as author and co-author) in different peer-reviewed Internalstional journals; to participate and contribute with different scientific communications (poster and oral) in Internalstional scientific meetings; to be part of organizing committee of some Internalstional conferences and to be recognized with some scientific awards.
