Paula Meireles

Paula Meireles is a researcher in Public Health and Epidemiology with a particular interest in studying the dynamics of HIV infection and prevention options among key populations for HIV, in a community-based and participatory research approach. She is a member of the “Epidemiology of infection by mycobacteria, HIV and other sexually transmitted infections” laboratory of the research line “Syndemics, health inequalities and vulnerable populations” of the associate Laboratory for Integrative and Translational Research in Population Health (ITR).

In June 2020 she obtained her PhD in Public Health from the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto. The thesis research activities were developed at the Epidemiology Research Unit-Institute of Public Health of the University of Porto (EPIUnit-ISPUP), and funded by an individual grant from the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (ref. SFRH/BD/112867 /2015 ). She has a degree in Clinical Analysis and Public Health since 2007 from the Porto Polytechnic School of Health and a Master’s in Public Health since 2015 from the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto.

Since 2018, she has been a member of the Executive Committee of the Lisbon Cohort of Men Who Have Sex with Men. In 2020, she was elected member of the board of the Portuguese Association of Epidemiology (2020-2022). In the same year, she was also appointed a member of the Task Force of the University of Porto for COVID-19.
