On June 30th, at 2:00 pm, Gyorgy Scrinis will present a seminar entitled: “Ultra-Processed Foods, Nutritionism and the Corporate Determinants of Health”.

This talk continues a series of seminars on the commercial determinants of health. Gyorgy Scrinis will share and discuss part of his work on nutritionism and ultra-processed foods, with an emphasis on corporations and their (indirect) health impacts.

Gyorgy Scrinis is Associate Professor of Food Politics and Policy in the School of Agriculture, Food and Ecosystem Sciences.
His research has examined the politics, policy and philosophy of food and nutrition, with a focus on nutrition science, ultra-processed foods, dietary advice, food security, functional foods, food labelling, animal welfare regulations, the role of transnational corporations, alternative proteins and new technologies of production. His book on Nutritionism The Science and Politics of Dietary Advice (Columbia University Press, 2013) develops a critique of nutritional reductionism in nutrition science, dietary advice and food engineering and marketing practices, and has been translated and published in Brazil and France.
