PhD in Veterinary Sciences at the Universidade do Porto, Teresa Letra Mateus was born in Porto in 1977. She graduated in Veterinary Medicine in 2001 (Universidade de Trás-os-montes and Alto Douro – UTAD), made her master degree in Food Science and Technology (Faculty of Biotechnology, Universidade Católica Portuguesa) and post graduate studies in Food Safety, Health Education and Promotion, and Health Communication.
Teresa always worked in the context of Veterinary Public Health, with livestock, meat inspection, food safety and in teaching at: UTAD (2001-2004), Escola Universitária Vasco da Gama (2004-2018) and Instituto Politécnico de Viana do Castelo (IPVC) (2007 until the date). Currently she is a professor at IPVC and a researcher in Center for Research and Development in Agrifood Systems and Sustainability (IPVC) (as a collaborator) and at EpiUnit – Instituto de Saúde Pública da Universidade do Porto, Laboratory for Integrative and Translational Research in Population Health (ITR) (full member).
She supervised 27 master’s theses in Veterinary Medicine and more than 70 final theses in Veterinary Nursing. She is co-supervisor of 3 PhD theses in Veterinary Sciences.
She is in the Portuguese board of the Wild Animals Vigilance Euro-Mediterranean Society and she is a member of the Portuguese Society of the Veterinary Sciences. She is a national member of the Management Committee of COST Action COMBAR CA 16230, Combatting anthelmintic resistance in ruminants and researcher in ERASMUS+ project 2017-1-FR01-KA202-037287, Educate animal welfare as a farming opportunity.
Her research area is One Health and especially parasitology, food safety, environmental health and health communication.
