Sílvia Fraga completed her PhD in Public Health at University of Porto in 2013 and she was a post-doc researcher (2014-2018) at the Institute of Public Health of University of Porto (SFRH/BPD/97015/2013). Currently, Silvia is a member of the Department of Health and Society and of the research group on Social Epidemiology (EPIUnit – Epidemiology Research Unit) and develops her investigation as a junior researcher since August of 2018.


Her main research is focused on the mechanisms and processes involved in the production of health inequalities from early life onwards. She is interested in how social adverse experiences, particularly violence experiences, are measured in population studies and how these experiences may “get under the skin” and become biologically embedded.


Currently, she is the principal investigator of two financed projects and a member of other national and international projects, with special emphasis on the LIFEPATH European consortium. Silvia published several articles in national and international peer-reviewed journal. She is also supervisor of master and doctoral students and gives lectures to the post-graduate courses at the Medical School of Porto University.
