The purpose of this project is to analyze the thermal comfort of elderly people in nursing homes located in the cross-border cooperation area of Spain-Portugal and to predict which thermal conditions are acceptable or preferred for this group of people.
This study aims to develop a statistical model of thermal comfort for the elderly in Atlantic climates, considering the climate and the built-up building. To concretize it, the common areas of the 5 most representative elderly residences in the Porto Metropolitan Area will be analyzed over a whole year. At the same time, a satisfaction survey (thermal/environmental well-being) will be designed and carried out for the residents and staff of the nursing homes understudy to develop the analytical model that determines the thermal comfort characteristics for this group of people. By crossing the environmental data obtained from the sensors with the results of the surveys, it will be possible to determine a very robust analytical model that, based on these factors, provides the ideal environmental conditions of the slogan for each space occupied by the residents. The application of comfort models for the elderly offers the possibility of improving their quality of life and at the same time can also offer energy saving.
