Catarina Samorinha

Catarina Samorinha holds a Bachelor’s degree (2006) and a Master’s in Psychology (2010) from the University of Minho and a Ph.D. in Public Health (2016) from the University of Porto, Portugal.

She is currently an Assistant Researcher at the Institute of Public Health of the University of Porto (ISPUP) in the Joint Action Prevent Non-Communicable Diseases – JAPreventNDC, co-funded by the European Commission through the EU Health Programme. The main goal of the project is to support strategies and policies designed to reduce the global burden of cancer and other non-communicable diseases. She has conducted research related to community health promotion, using mixed methods, in areas such as tobacco and diabetes prevention and mental and reproductive health promotion.

She has been a researcher in nationally and internationally funded projects and, between 2020 and 2024, she was a Post-Doctoral Research Associate at the University of Sharjah (United Arab Emirates), focusing on improving healthcare delivery.

She is a member of the Laboratory Social Adversity and Health Inequalities at ITR – Integrated and Translational Research Laboratory in Population Health. Her research interests focus on creating health-promoting environments, both in terms of intervening in disease risk factors and their social determinants and in promoting more effective health policies and care.
