Raquel Duarte

Raquel Duarte is a medical doctor specialised in Pulmonology with two MSc degrees in Health Economics and Public Health and a Doctor degree in Public Health granted in 2011. She is also Invited Associated Professor with Agregation at the Institute of Biomedical Sciences Abel Salazar, University of Porto. She is also the coordinator of the lab Epidemiology of respiratory diseases, mycobacteria infection and infectious diseases.

In various global capacities, Raquel Duarte has held positions such as Secretary General, Vice President, and, most recently, President of the “Europe Region Officers International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Diseases.”

She previously served as the president of the tuberculosis group and then secretary of Assembly 10, Respiratory Infections. She is the chair for “Assembly 10, Respiratory Infections.” Additionally, Duarte is a member of the Disease Network Coordination Committee at the European Center for Disease Control and Prevention (ECDC).

In Portugal, Raquel Duarte was Coordinator of the National Tuberculosis Program in the National Directorate of Health; she was Advisor of the Ministry of Health for COVID-19 Preparedness and Response in the country, and she was Secretary of State for Health in the XXI Constitutional Government between October 2018 until October 2019.

Currently, Raquel Duarte is also the director of the Centro de Saúde Pública Gonçalves Ferreira (CSPGF) – the Delegation of the Instituto Nacional de Saúde Doutor Ricardo Jorge (INSA) in Porto.
