Leopoldo Lucio da Mata, in 2015, graduated in Dentistry from the University of Uberaba (UNIUBE), Brazil. From 2016 to 2018, he was granted a scholarship to be part of the Multi-professional Residence Programme at the Mário Palmério University Hospital and UNIUBE.
In 2020, he obtained the title of Master in Public Health from the Faculty of Medicine of Porto, the Institute of Biomedical Sciences Abel Salazar and the Institute of Public Health of the University of Porto. The master’s thesis research study was based on the III National Prevalence of Oral Diseases which aimed to assess the existence of social inequalities in oral health-related behaviours and the association between social determinants and oral health-related behaviours in 18-year-old adolescents.
He is currently part of the research team of the Laboratory of Life Course Perspective on Oral Health of the Institute of Public Health of the University of Porto, coordinated by Professor Maria Lurdes Pereira. He is also working in the field of Dentistry in the United Kingdom, where he has been living since 2020.
