Helena Machado is Full Professor in the Department of Sociology at the University of Minho. Her research focus on the sociology of crime and the social studies of forensic genetics, in particular the societal, regulatory and ethical issues of applying molecular genetic techniques to contemporary forms of governance in the forensic and medical field. In 2015, he was awarded a Consolidator Grant by the European Research Council (ERC), one of the most prestigious and competitive grants for scientific research of excellence in Europe.
