Sarah Murphy is a Canadian health professional. Sarah lives in the province of Nova Scotia where she works as a School Health Promoter for the Nova Scotia Health Authority. Sarah has also worked in various sectors across Canada, including community mental health, primary health care, social work, and education. These roles illuminated overlapping patterns of policy inadequacies that led Sarah to the field of Public Health. In this role she works to improve the social, structural, commercial, and ecological determinants of health by advocating for policy and systems change in the school and community setting.
Sarah is currently a master’s student at the Public Health Institute at the University of Porto (ISPUP) and member of the Health and Territory Lab.
Her current research is exploring the impacts of extreme temperature on public health in Portugal. This research reflects a consistent professional interest in the intersections of human and ecological health, the social determinants of health, and evidence-based policy making.
