The results of the serological tests done to detect specific antibodies to the SARS-CoV-2 virus among Porto Public Higher Education workers are now available for consultation on the medRxiv platform.
This serological testing program conducted by the Instituto de Saúde Pública da Universidade do Porto (ISPUP), between May and July of 2020, examined 4952 workers from the Escola Superior de Enfermagem do Porto, from Universidade do Porto, and the Politécnico do Porto.
It was concluded that 3.9% (179) of the assessed workers had antibodies (of the lgM and/or lgG classes) against the novel SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus.
3.1% (142) had lgM class antibodies and 1.0% (45) tested positive for the presence of lgG class antibodies – the antibodies of longer duration.
As expected, seroprevalence was higher among workers who reported contact with positive cases, had been quarantined, or those who indicated they had symptoms.
The results of the study, entitled Prevalence of SARS-CoV-2 antibodies among workers of the public higher education institutions of Porto, Portugal, conducted by researchers from the EPIUnit of ISPUP, are available for consultation at the medRxiv platform.
