Mariana Amorim, researcher at the Instituto de Saúde Pública da Universidade do Porto (ISPUP), received, on April 10th, the prize for best PhD thesis in the area of quality of life, well-being, and happiness, from the International Society for Quality-of-Life Studies (ISQOLS).
The prized awarded, worth 1500 dollars, aims to promote the activity of young researchers that work with topics related to quality of life, well-being, and happiness.
The dissertation, also oriented by an ISPUP researcher, Susana Silva, is designated Quality of life in parents of very preterm infants: insights from family integrated care, and was developed in the framework of the Doctoral Program in Global Public Health from the Universidade do Porto and from the Universidade Nova de Lisboa.
The study assessed the quality of life of the fathers of very preterm infants, four months after birth. The results “highlight the importance of focusing on the development of intersectoral, integrated and family-centred health policies, in order to improve the quality of life of mothers and fathers of very preterm infants”, refers Mariana Amorim.
Among these measures are the “reformulation of the parental leave and the design of focused interventions to reduce the negative effects of the need for constant surveillance and hygiene that these babies often require”, adds.
Beyond the monetary value, the prize awarded to the ISPUP researcher also includes the registration as a member of the International Society for Quality-of-Life Studies, during the period of one year, the free access to the Applied Research in Quality of Life Studies journal and the free registration in the 18th Conference of the ISQOLS.
The PhD thesis awarded is available here and in the ISQOLS website .
