The primary focus of Occupational Chemical Exposures-Health (OCHE Lab) is to better understand human exposures and health risks posed by occupational contaminants in an integrated approach by applying multi-disciplinary methods of exposure assessment, genotoxicity, psychosocial factors, and clinical measurements in worker populations.
The main mission of the lab is to identify exposure health hazards in the workplace environment, to provide information on potential mechanisms of environmental-disease development and to help design science-based prevention strategies to improve workers-health, through transdisciplinary research and multi-stakeholder partnerships.
The main goals are to carry projects investigating potential health risks in occupational settings, promoting health surveillance of workers at risk, enhancing health promotion in the workplace and creating/reinforcing knowledge in occupational health, both at the national and international level.
These strategic principles are aligned with the National Occupational Health Program (PNSOC) by promoting additional health gains in the working population, improving the quality of occupational monitoring, as well as giving a greater recognition of the value of workers’ health as a priority factor for achieving sustainable development.
A healthy workplace correlates to a sustainable work-environment increasing employee productivity and lessening work-related morbidity. Besides pursuing national and international funding opportunities, together with established national and international partners or new collaborations, we are also engaged in attracting new talent and on the formation of qualified scientific minds oriented towards research and innovation, exploring potential emerging occupational health risks.
