Márcio Silva began his PhD at the Institute of Public Health of the University of Porto in September 2018. In 2023, he was granted an individual FCT Scholarship to conduct his PhD project entitled “Men who have sex with men: From epidemiological data to STIs prevention”.
He is a member of the “Epidemiology of infection by mycobacteria, HIV and other sexually transmitted infections” laboratory of the research line “Syndemics, health inequalities and vulnerable populations” of the Associate Laboratory for Integrative and Translational Research in Population Health (ITR).
He graduated in Nursing at the Jean Piaget Institute in 2001. In 2008 he completed a Master’s Degree in Sexology at the University of Maia and in 2017 completed a Master´s Degree in Management and Leadership of Nursing Services at the Nursing School of Porto.
He began his clinical activity as a nurse at the Hospital Center of Vila Nova de Gaia in 2001. In 2007 he joined the National Institute of Medical Emergency to work in the Immediate Life Support Ambulance Network.
