Susana Santos graduated in Nutritional Sciences in 2009 and completed a Master in Epidemiology in 2012 at the University of Porto (Portugal). She completed a Joint Doctorate in Public Health between the University of Porto (Portugal) and Erasmus University Rotterdam (Netherlands) in 2017.
She worked as an intern researcher at the Centre for Food Policy, City University London (2009) and as a researcher with a scientific initiation grant and subsequently an individual doctoral grant at the Institute of Public Health, University of Porto (ISPUP) (2010-2014). From 2014 to 2022, she conducted her research at The Generation R Study Group and Department of Pediatrics at Erasmus MC, University Medical Center Rotterdam, Rotterdam, the Netherlands. She also worked 6 months as postdoctoral researcher at ISGlobal, Institute for Global Health, Barcelona, Spain (2018/19). Currently, she is a PhD researcher at ITR – Laboratory for Integrative and Translational Research in Population Health, integrated in the Lab Perinatal Determinants of Health.
She has been conducting her research and also having coordinating tasks within EU H2020 funded international collaborations and consortia (Maternal Obesity and Childhood Outcomes (MOCO)-LifeCycle Project, ATHLETE and LongITools).
Her line of research has been mainly focused on the role of early adverse exposures (namely, psychosocial, lifestyle, chemical, and urban exposures) on health outcomes, in particular on body fat and cardiometabolic health, in children. She developed a special interest in the integration of the exposome concept and methodologies in this field.
