Catarina Carvalho has a bachelor’s degree in Nutrition Sciences from the Faculty of Nutrition and Food Sciences of the University of Porto, a master’s degree in Food Technology and Science from the School of Engineering of the University of Minho/Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto and a PhD in Public Health from the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto.
Since 2018, she has been part of the team of several national and international projects, including the National Food and Physical Activity Survey (IAN-AF 2015-2016), and several projects funded by the European Food Safety Authority – EFSA – (ERA EU-Menu, Risk-Benefit4EU, DOSE). In 2019, she received an individual PhD scolarship from the PT Foundation for Science and Technology, with the project Public Health Risk-Benefit Assessment of Foods: a comprehensive approach integrating health and sustainability (SFRH/BD/146078/2019).
In 2024, she worked as a scientific consultant for the European Food Safety Authority – EFSA. She is currently a Junior Researcher on the CONNECTION project – CO-creating commuNity iNterventions on diEt and physical aCtivity to increase health equiTy in chIldren and adOlesceNts, and a guest lecturer at the Faculty of Nutrition and Food Sciences at the University of Porto.
Her main research interests are related to food and nutrient intake assessment, risk-benefit assessment of food consumption and environmental sustainability of the diet.
Catarina is a member of the Food, Consumption and Sustainability Lab from ITR.
