The ISPUP Ethics Committee was created in 2013. It is a collegial, consultative and independent body that issues ethical opinions on all scientific activities of the Institute, particularly on scientific research projects in which it is the proposing or participating entity. It is governed by Regulations that can be downloaded here.

Research projects that include ISPUP as a proposing or participating entity should be submitted to the Institute’s Ethics Committee and should be sent to etica@ispup.up.pt, until at least 5 working days before the date of the next Committee meeting.
The submission form must be completely filled out in Portuguese.
The Ethics Committee meets ordinarily on a monthly basis. See the calendar of upcoming meetings below:
Meetings 2024 | Submission Deadline |

12 of December | 04 of December |
The ISPUP Ethics Committee may waive the assessment of projects, in the case that they are mandatorily assessed by similar committees of other institutions.
Aspects to be considered according to article 6 of the ISPUP Ethics Committee Regulation:
If the Ethics Committee has requested clarification or additional reformulations to the submitted projects, the researcher should send the requested information to the following e-mail address: etica@ispup.up.pt, up to five working days before the date of the next meeting, so that the Committee may issue a definitive opinion. The situations in which, due to exceptional and justified circumstances, the Ethics Committee considers that it is unable to issue an opinion are safeguarded.
When the 90 day period has passed without any response having been received in regards to requests for clarification or reformulation, the submission is considered withdrawn and the process is closed (it may be reopened, if there is a new submission).
