Sofia Martins

Sofia Martins graduated in Nutrition Sciences from the Faculty of Nutrition and Food Sciences of the University of Porto (FCNAUP) in 2015. Her curricular internship was carried out in Rio de Janeiro, through an international cooperation agreement between the University of Porto and the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), for which she received a Scholarship awarded by Santander Universities (Bolsas Ibero-Americanas, Becas). During this period, she integrated projects in four different fields: nutrition and public health, nutrition policy, clinical nutrition and food technology.

In the same year (2015), she started working as a researcher at the Bern University of Applied Sciences, Department of Health, Nutrition and Dietetics (BFH, Switzerland), where she collaborated on several projects, with special emphasis on the projects: “NutriGed”, “Food Insecurity in Refugees from Afghanistan” and “Dysphagia”. These projects resulted in several publications in national and international journals and magazines.

By the end of 2016, she started her Master’s in Life Sciences with specialization in Food, Nutrition and Health, also at the Bern University of Applied Sciences, having completed in 2018. With the results of her thesis, she published an article in the Medical & Clinical Research Journal as the first author.

In the past three years, she has worked in the Education Division of the Municipality of Vila Nova de Famalicão, where she developed and implemented the Project “NutriEduca – Food and Nutrition Education in the School Context”, promoting healthy eating in the municipal school community.

Currently, she is a student of the Doctoral Program in Public Health at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto, having been awarded with a Research Scholarship by the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT).
