This research Lab integrates knowledge of the social and biological sciences and intends to produce relevant research with a societal impact, contributing to the foundation for policy and practice.

Since social inequalities in health have been recognized as a priority for the global public health agenda, this Lab is committed to fulfilling the pledge of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development that states that “no one is left behind”.

More specifically, this group will:

1) quantify inequalities and inequities emphasizing the needs of the more disadvantaged or vulnerable;

2) gather reliable and quality data on violence and other experiences of adversity in population studies;

3) contribute to better understand the mechanisms through which physical and psychological health diverge by social class and across generations; and

4) to identify positive aspects, coping strategies and mechanisms of resilience  to attenuate social differences and to overcome childhood adversity and ageing-related challenges.

This knowledge can be used to diminish the health gap between citizens, and lay the foundation to produce and influence public health policies to enhance equity and empower all, irrespective of gender, age or economic status, culminating in the development of more inclusive and healthy societies.
