Sara Soares

Sara has a degree in Biomedical Sciences from the University of Algarve (2009), a Master degree in Pharmaceutical Medicine from the University of Aveiro (2013) and completed her PhD in Public Health at the University of Porto in 2020. Sara develops her investigation as a junior researcher at the Institute of Public Health of the University of Porto (May 2021-) and is a member of the Social Adversity & Health Inequalities Lab.

Her research interests are in the field of Social Epidemiology, with her main research focus being the biology of social adversity and social inequalities, particularly the intergenerational transmission of health inequalities.

Sara participated as a research fellow and as a research member in several national research projects funded by FCT, and international projects, namely the Lifepath European consortium. Currently is a research member of a national project, HIneC. She is also working as a research member and investigator in the international project “Global CVH Research Collaborative (GCRC)”, aiming to conduct epidemiological studies of early-to mid-life trajectories of cardiovascular health with emphasis on low- and middle-income countries.

Her work received the awards “III IACOBUS Papers” and “Best doctoral research design” from Idea Puzzle® and Santander Totta and received the 3rd award in an oral presentation at the Young Researchers Forum from ASPHER. Sara published several articles in international peer-reviewed journals and is the supervisor of bachelor and master students.
