Berta is a registered nutritionist (5118N) with a degree from the Faculty of Nutrition and Food Sciences of the University of Porto (2021) and is currently a PhD candidate in Public Health at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto.
Throughout her career, she has gained experience in community nutrition and public health research, having worked as a data manager on the European project EUCAN-Connect, where she developed skills in harmonising longitudinal data, particularly on the G21 cohort. Her interest in interdisciplinary collaboration led her to join the NNEdPro Global Institute for Food, Nutrition and Health, where she co-led the Mediterranean Regional Network between 2021 and 2023 and remains an active member.
She is currently working on her PhD project, ‘The weight of society: a comprehensive approach to socioeconomic inequalities in obesity’ (2023.00992.BD), funded by FCT. This project, carried out in collaboration with ISPUP, Lund University (Sweden) and NNEdPro (United Kingdom), investigates socioeconomic inequalities in obesity, both at an individual and contextual level, considering three geographical dimensions: Porto, Portugal and Europe.
Enthusiastic about collaboration and multidisciplinarity, she is interested in studying the social, sociological and economic dimensions of obesity. Her research is guided by a vision of fairer and more inclusive public health, with the aim of reducing social inequalities and promoting well-being and health.
