Elisabete Ramos

Elisabete Ramos graduated in Nutrition, by the Faculty of Nutrition and Food Sciences of the University of Porto, in 1997. At the University of Porto Medical School, she completed in 2001 a Master in Public Health, with a specialization in Epidemiology, and in 2006 a PhD in Public Health. She has been a Professor at the Faculty of Medicine of Porto since 2007, and a member of the Scientific Committee of the Master in Health Education. She has developed research in national and international projects mostly on the study of behavioral determinants of health, namely those related to obesity.

Specifically, she has focused her research on the determinants of prevalence and incidence of obesity, and on the dynamics of obesity between adolescence and adulthood. She has also studied the role of body fat distribution on the incidence of cardio-metabolic risk and the role of systemic inflammation as a mediator of the effects of adiposity. Regarding the study of behavioral risk factors, she has devoted particular attention to dietary factors. Approximately 60 scientific publications in international journals were achieved as a result of her scientific career.
