Sofia Sosa

Sofia graduated from her bachelors in Nutrition in México from the Universidad Marista de Mérida in 2012. She worked at a Public Hospital as an intern nutritionist for a year, rotated through pediatrics, nephrology, surgery, orthopedics, internal medicine, and the pediatric intensive care unit; giving discharge nutrition instructions to patients when leaving the hospital.

She volunteered at the Center for Women’s Health Research at the University of North Carolina (UNC) in the United States; in the nutrition department helping with the “Mothers and Others” project, initially with paperwork, data entry, and organizing questionnaires, to later move on to different areas in the research. Also, she collaborated at Prolepsis Institute in Athens, Greece. During that period, she was involved in different research topics such as mycotoxins and pesticides in baby food, food suppliers, selection criteria in food aid programs, school meals, and the update and translation to English and Spanish from the Greek Nutrition Guideline.

In September 2018, Sofia enrolled in the Public Health Masters (Europubhealth+), being Spain her first year at the Escuela Andaluza de Salud Pública and France her second year at the École des Hautes Études en Santé Publique with the specialization in environmental and occupational health. She did her internship at the Luxembourg Institute of Health (LIH) from February to August 2020, with the topic: “Multidisciplinary management of obesity through digital health: A scoping review”.

In September 2021, she started her PhD in Public Health Nutrition at the Instituto de Saúde Pública da Universidade do Porto.
