João Cavaleiro Rufo is a PhD researcher at ISPUP and Invited Adjunct Professor at E2S | P. Porto. An expert in environmental determinants of asthma, he has led studies on various exposure factors and their biomarkers, from indoor air quality to contact with nature, and from the microbiome to breathomics. In 2018 he completed his PhD in Occupational Safety and Health, with Laude distinction, awarded by the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto.
He is currently the coordinator of the Laboratory for Indoor Air Quality and Respiratory Health (QAISAR) at ITR. He also leads the taskforce “Managing the upcoming increase in asthma prevalence caused by the war in Ukraine” of the European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology (EAACI). S
ince 2013, he has published more than 100 articles in international journals, indexed in the Web of Science. He is Associate Editor of Frontiers in Allergy and responsible for the intensive course “Indoor Air Quality and Public Health” and the PRR course “Public Health in the Built Environment”.
