Joana Sampaio

Joana Sampaio has a degree in Nutrition Sciences from the Faculty of Nutrition and Food Sciences of the University of Porto (FCNAUP), completed in 2015. That same year, she was invited to collaborate as a Trainee Nutritionist and Inquirer in the Public Health initiative – PRONUTRISENIOR project , financed by EEA Grants (PT06 – Public Health Initiatives Program, reference 81NU5), in which remained until 2016.

Joana obtained a Master’s degree in Public Health from the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto (FMUP), in 2019. During 2018-2019, she was a Research Fellow at the Public Health Institute of the University of Porto (ISPUP), within the scope of the HARMED project (PTDC/IVC-SOC/6782/2014).

Joana is currently a PhD student in Physical Activity and Health at the Research Center for Physical Activity, Health and Leisure (CIAFEL)/Faculty of Sports of the University of Porto (FADEUP), with an individual scholarship project approved by the Foundation for Science and Technology (SFRH/BD/146241/2019). She is also a Research Fellow within the scope of the project “NeurodegCoV19: Neurodegenerative complications after COVID-19” (PTDC/SAU-EPI/6275/2020), being integrated into the Laboratory for Integrative and Translational Research in Health (ITR), in the laboratory entitled “Cognitive impairment in diseases involving the nervous system”.

She co-supervised a degree thesis at FCNAUP. She has published scientific articles in national and international journals, as well as oral presentations at scientific meetings and collaborations in other scientific productions.

Her main research interests focus on social, economic and health determinants, particularly related to cognitive function, of aging and geriatric nutrition.
