Milena Moraes

Milena Moraes has a degree in Nutrition from the Federal University of the State of Rio de Janeiro (UNIRIO), Brazil (2009). She specialized in Clinical Nutrition with a focus on Cardiology and high complexity at Hospital Pró-Cardíaco (2010-2011). She holds a Masters (2010-2012) in Human Nutrition and a PhD (2012-2016) in Nutritional Sciences from the Graduate Program in Nutrition at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), both with scholarships granted by the Coordination for the Improvement of Superior Level Personnel (CAPES).

She went for a doctoral internship at the Universidad de Zaragoza (Spain), between 2014 and 2015. She was as Assistant Professor with fixed-term contract at the Josué de Castro Nutrition Institute at UFRJ, being responsible for the discipline of Nutritional Assessment and supervisor of the Internship in Nutrition in Public Health, in 2017. She was a PhD researcher at the Institute of Nutrition of the State University of Rio de Janeiro between 2016 and 2019.

Since 2019, she has been a PhD researcher at the Faculty of Nutrition and Food Sciences of the University of Porto and an integrated researcher at the Institute of Public Health of the University of Porto, being a member of the ITR – Laboratory for Integrative and Translational Research in Population Health by the laboratory “Food habits assessment and determinants”, which is included in the thematic line “Genetic, behavioural and environmental determinants of health and disease”.

She has experience in the field of Nutritional Epidemiology and her current main research interests include: consumption of ultra-processed foods, dietary surveys, dietary habits, obesity, cardiovascular risk, anthropometric and body composition assessment.
