Ana Azevedo was born in 1975, in Valadares, Vila Nova de Gaia. She graduated in Medicine in 1999. In 2006 she completed her PhD with the thesis “A public health approach to the failing heart”. In 2007 she became a specialist in Internal Medicine. She teaches at the University of Porto Medical School since 1998, and is an Assistant Professor of Epidemiology since 2007, responsible for the teaching of Clinical Epidemiology at the Integrated Master in Medicine, as well as several disciplines on Introduction to Epidemiology, Clinical Epidemiology, Clinical Trials and Cardiovascular Epidemiology in the Master Courses in Epidemiology and Health Education, and the PhD Programme in Public Health.

She is Director of the Hospital Epidemiology Center of Centro Hospitalar de São João since 2012. She is member of the Scientific Council for Health Sciences at the Foundation for Science and Technology since 2014. She (co- )authored over 100 full-text publications in internatonal journals, that led to over 1000 citations. Her research areas of interest are in clinical epidemiology of cardiovascular diseases and patient safety.
