Cancer is a major cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide, and the absolute number of cases, cancer deaths and cancer survivors has been increasing.

This laboratory aims to use sound and robust methodological approaches, based on primary and secondary data, to study the causes of cancer and the non-fatal outcomes of cancer, in order to achieve a comprehensive characterisation of the burden of the disease, an improvement in cancer prevention and control, as well as in the management of patients’ expectations regarding the disease.

The group has focused its research primarily on gastric cancer etiology, the incidence and survival of second primary cancers, and the non-fatal outcomes of breast and prostate cancers.
